The Upper Falls MBTA Station , historically significant as the first depot for the Otis Pettee Mills, had been scheduled for demolition by the MBTA in 1977. The NHPA petitioned the MBTA to forego the demolition until the Preservation Association could develop a plan for renewal. The NHPA leased the building for two years until rehabilitation was finished by the Upper Falls Improvement Society.
